Tend health notice

Last updated October 13, 2026. This notice is part of the terms of use.

Tend is a game, not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan. It counts what you do and gives a pet a reason to care. It doesn't know your health.

Before you start exercising

Talk to a doctor before you start exercising or make it harder, especially if you have a heart, lung or joint condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, are pregnant, or take medication that affects your heart rate. Heart-rate zones in Tend are general estimates, not medical targets. They're worked out from your age (208 minus 0.7 times your age), so Tend shows no zones until it knows the year you were born.

Before you change your weight

Talk to a doctor before starting a weight loss or weight gain plan, especially if you are pregnant, have or have had an eating disorder, have diabetes, heart disease, or any condition that affects how you should eat or move. The paces in Tend, about half a percent of body weight a week, are a common general guideline and may not be right for you.

Movement

The daily goal in Tend is deliberately modest and adjusts for age. Start where you are. If you feel pain, dizziness, chest discomfort or shortness of breath, stop and get medical help. Don't look at your phone while you're moving; your pet will still be there when you look up. Exercise is at your own risk (see the terms).

Food

Food logging is for your own record. Calorie and nutrition figures come from a public database and can be wrong. Tend never tells you to eat less than a safe amount, and if the app ever feels like pressure to under-eat, stop using it and talk to someone.

The pet

If you don't show up for a while, your pet gets tired and falls asleep until you're back. That's the game. Time off is built in for when life happens; use it. Nothing in Tend is worth an unsafe step.

Emergencies

If you are in danger or in crisis, contact your local emergency number. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
